Food Scale

I have a new kitchen toy!! This time my new kitchen appliance is a food scale.

Please ignore my dirty stove, this was (scary enough) the cleanest available surface in my kitchen. Anyways. This is a digital food scale that I bought at Aldi’s for $20. So far I LOVE it. I’m following the weight watchers program, and this has been great for portioning out things for my meals… the amount of turkey for my sandwich, pasta to cook, etc. I also used it to perfectly portion out various snacks into convenient one-portion snack-sized baggies!

There you can see my pile of pretzels, baked Cheetos, animal crackers, and Baked Tositos. Incidentally, the Weight Watchers thing is part of why I haven’t been cooking a lot lately… all of the things I know how to cook are fattening and unhealthy! Hmm… maybe that’s how *I* got fat and unhealthy in the first place.
Ah well, hopefully there will be more (perfectly portioned) recipes featured here in the near future!

Reynold’s Handi-Vac

I got another new kitchen toy, and I’m really excited about it. My mom bought one of these Reynold’s Handi-Vacs before Thanksgiving sometime, and was telling me all about it. I kept meaning to get one for myself, but I’m one of those “If it’s not on the list, it probably won’t make it into the cart. Unless it’s chocolate” type of people. I went shopping Saturday morning, however, and I did remember to put it on the list.
The most important aspect here is the part you can see on the box. “Virtually eliminates freezer burn.” I have the WORST freezer for freezer burn! It’s unavoidable! It’s probably too late for the chicken that’s already in my freezer, but the next batch might survive a little better. Right now, I’m using the bags in my fridge to keep my veggies fresh for lunches this week. It’s meant to be for the freezer, so they don’t guarantee results for the fridge or other uses, but we’ll see how it goes.
