No Bake Cookies

Apparently I don’t want to ever lose the weight because this week, I chose to make No Bake Cookies. The kind you make on the stove top and don’t bother waiting until it’s completely set before you start eating them. They just so happened to be one of the only things I had all the ingredients on hand for tonight. Kind of telling isn’t it? That I have ingredients for cookies, but not for dinner? There are cookies to make and eat, so let’s get started.

No Bakes Ingredients

You’ll need oatmeal, milk, sugar, cocoa, butter or margarine, peanut butter and salt.

Margarine

In a saucepan, combine 1 stick margarine or butter… As you can see, I really need new pans.

Milk

1/2 cup milk…

Cocoa

1/2 cup cocoa…

Sugar

2 cups of sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt whose picture didn’t turn out.

Mixed together

Get it all stirred up together… it might take a minute if you’re waiting on your butter to melt.

Bring to a boil

Bring to a boil, and cook for one minute. Incidentally, it is hard to get a picture of a boiling pot… all you get is steam!

Peanut Butter

Remove from the heat. You can’t tell, but in this picture I’ve just added 1/2 cup of peanut butter.

Oatmeal

Add 3 cups of oatmeal.

Stir well

Stir until well-combined. You can usually tell right away if you’ve done it right because it will be starting to thicken up as you stir it.

Dropping cookies

Drop spoonfuls onto wax paper. Let the cookies cool until they are set. Or some of them anyways. Feel free to pick up the still warm, half-set cookies and enjoy them! And don’t stress out too much if the cookies don’t set… the “goop” still tastes wonderful when scraped off the wax paper with a spoon. Ask me how I know. :)

Oh my goodness! I haven’t had these cookies since I was a kid and I am SOOOOO glad to have found this recipe. I had to laugh at your comment about your pans. Mine look very similar and I am always trying to find ways to hide their pitiful state in my photos. Guess we’re too busy cooking to shop, right? LOL! Thanks for sharing this recipe ;-)

They look delicious! I have just recently added a recipe blog. I wanted to put my recipes on there so that when my kids call and want a recipe, I know longer have to go over it with them. They can find them online. I do like to cook. I’m glad I found your blog.

These are probably my family’s favorite cookies! I probably make them more then any other cookie, they’re so quick and easy and sooooo yummy and chocolatey!
Unfortunately the need to lose weight has put them on my no-no list :(

We call them cow pie cookies for obvious reasons. :) My recipe also calls for a tsp of vanilla that is added after you boil. My girls make these a lot and one batch doesn’t last long! Also, try eating them frozen. Yummy!

These are one of my favorite things in the whole world! My mom would always make them and I now make them at my house. Here’s a tip, instead of using the 1/2 cup cocoa, you can substitute 1/2 cup brown sugar for a PB/penuche type flavor. Faboooo!

I looove those cookies. Mine never set, though. My mom says it’s because I’m not boiling them along enough. She suggests a full three minutes. Hope that helps!
